Barbell Floor Press
Chest, Front Delts, TricepsBarbell
A heavy pressing movement done on the floor. It overloads the chest and triceps through a shortened range of motion, protecting shoulder joints.
How to do it
1Lie under the bar with knees bent, feet flat, and grip the bar slightly wider than shoulder-width.
2Unrack the barbell and stabilize it directly over your upper chest.
3Lower the bar under control until your upper arms rest flat on the floor.
4Pause your elbows on the ground for a fraction of a second while maintaining full tension.
5Drive the barbell upward with power back to the starting position.
Common mistakes
Crashing your elbows onto the floor at the bottom, risking joint injury and losing force.
Arching your lower back excessively, which compromises spinal position.
Pressing unevenly, causing the bar to tilt and shifting load unevenly.
Breathing
Inhale smoothly as you lower the bar down; exhale powerfully on the upward drive.
Make it harder or easier
To lower intensity, start with an empty barbell.
To increase intensity, attach resistance bands to the ends of the bar for peak lockout tension.
This is general guidance, not a medical opinion. Listen to your body: if it hurts, stop. If you have an injury or a chronic condition, talk to a doctor first.
