Barbell Bradford Press
Delts, TrapsBarbell
A specialized standing press variation that alternates the barbell front-to-back over your head. Keeps continuous tension on the deltoids by skipping the top lockout.
How to do it
1Stand upright, holding the barbell on your front delts and upper chest.
2Press the bar up just high enough to clear the crown of your head.
3Arc the bar over your head and lower it smoothly onto your upper traps behind your neck.
4Without pausing, press the bar back up over your head and bring it back to your chest.
5Continue this continuous arc motion back and forth for the entire set.
Common mistakes
Fully locking out your arms at the top — loses the continuous shoulder tension.
Using too much weight — ruins movement control and increases neck or shoulder injury risk.
Jerking your head forward and back instead of moving the bar in a clean arc.
Breathing
Keep a steady rhythm: inhale as you lower the bar and exhale as you press it over your head.
Make it harder or easier
To regress, use an empty or light technique barbell. To progress, slow down the transfer speed.
This is general guidance, not a medical opinion. Listen to your body: if it hurts, stop. If you have an injury or a chronic condition, talk to a doctor first.
