Band-Resisted High Knee
LegsResistance Band
Builds hip flexor and leg strength while improving single-leg balance. The band resistance reinforces quality unilateral muscle recruitment.
How to do it
1Secure a band around your feet and stand tall in a neutral posture.
2Shift your weight to one leg, keeping a soft bend in the standing knee for stability.
3Drive the opposite knee up toward hip height in a controlled motion against the band.
4Hold briefly at the top to lock in your balance.
5Slowly lower your leg back down, maintaining tension on the band.
Common mistakes
Leaning back as the knee drives up — takes work off the hip flexors and strains the lower back.
Letting the leg drop quickly — reduces time under tension.
Rotating your hips — ruins the path of motion and reduces efficiency.
Breathing
Exhale as you drive the knee up, and inhale as you smoothly lower your foot back down.
Make it harder or easier
To regress, hold onto a support for balance or use a lighter band; to progress, increase band resistance or hold the top knee drive for a few seconds.
This is general guidance, not a medical opinion. Listen to your body: if it hurts, stop. If you have an injury or a chronic condition, talk to a doctor first.
