Band External Rotation

Band External Rotation

rotator cuff, shouldersResistance Band

Standing unilateral isolation exercise using a resistance band to strengthen the rotator cuff. Helps build shoulder stability for daily tasks and heavy lifting.

How to do it

1Anchor a band at elbow height, stand perpendicular to the anchor, and hold the band with your far hand.
2Bend your working arm to a 90-degree angle and pin your elbow tight against your torso.
3Rotate your forearm outward smoothly while keeping your elbow glued to your side.
4Hold the end position for one second, feeling the deep shoulder muscles contract.
5Slowly lower back to the starting position under control, keeping tension on the band.

Common mistakes

Letting your elbow drift away from your body, shifting load to larger muscles and lowering efficiency.
Twisting your entire torso along with your arm, removing tension from the shoulder rotators.
Using jerky movements or rushing the release, increasing the risk of tendon strain.

Breathing

Exhale as you rotate your arm outward, and inhale as you return to the starting position.

This is general guidance, not a medical opinion. Listen to your body: if it hurts, stop. If you have an injury or a chronic condition, talk to a doctor first.
