Band Woodchop

Obliques, Abs, Lats, ShouldersResistance Band

The band woodchop builds rotational core stability, working your abs, back, and shoulders. The diagonal path improves full-body coordination.

How to do it

1Anchor a band up high, stand sideways to it, and grab the handle with both hands.
2Step away to create tension and set your feet wider than shoulder-width.
3Pull the handle diagonally down and across your body, rotating your torso.
4Keep a soft bend in your elbows and control the movement with your abs.
5Slowly return to the start, resisting the pull of the band.

Common mistakes

Pulling only with your arms without rotating your torso.
Letting the band snap your hands back to the start position.
Lifting your feet and losing your lower-body base.

Breathing

Exhale as you chop diagonally down and inhale as you return to the top.

Make it harder or easier

To make it easier, step closer to the anchor point.
To make it harder, step farther away or use a heavier resistance band.

This is general guidance, not a medical opinion. Listen to your body: if it hurts, stop. If you have an injury or a chronic condition, talk to a doctor first.
