Standing Resistance Band Chest Fly

Standing Resistance Band Chest Fly

ChestResistance Band

An isolation exercise using a resistance band to hit the chest with smooth, continuous tension. Great for warm-ups or finishing off the muscles without joint stress.

How to do it

1Anchor the band at chest height behind you and grab the handles.
2Step forward to create tension, keeping a slight bend in your elbows and arms spread out.
3Exhale and bring your hands together in front of you, squeezing your chest hard at the finish.
4Hold the squeeze for a second, feeling the peak contraction in your chest.
5Inhale and control your arms back to the start, maintaining that slight elbow bend.

Common mistakes

Bending and straightening your elbows — turns the fly into a press and unloads the chest.
Hunching and rounding your shoulders forward — takes the chest muscles out of the work.
Letting the band snap your arms back — increases the risk of pulling shoulder ligaments.

Breathing

Exhale as you bring your hands together in front. Inhale as you smoothly open your arms out.

This is general guidance, not a medical opinion. Listen to your body: if it hurts, stop. If you have an injury or a chronic condition, talk to a doctor first.
