Band-Assisted Hamstring Stretch
HamstringsResistance Band
A lying hamstring stretch using a resistance band to control range of motion while taking pressure off your lower back.
How to do it
1Lie flat on your back with legs extended, looping a resistance band around the arch of one foot.
2Grasp the band with both hands and raise your leg straight up until you feel a gentle stretch in your hamstring.
3Keep your non-working leg flat on the floor, or slightly bend the knee to ease lower back pressure.
4Hold a comfortable stretch without forcing the joint into painful discomfort.
5Lower your leg under control and repeat on the opposite side.
Common mistakes
Lifting your pelvis or lower back off the floor, shifting tension from the hamstring to your lumbar spine.
Bending your working knee excessively, which reduces the stretch on the hamstring.
Yanking on the band abruptly, triggering a protective reflex spasm.
Breathing
Breathe calmly through your nose. Use every exhale to gently ease deeper into the stretch.
Make it harder or easier
To make it easier, bend your non-working leg and place that foot flat on the floor.
To make it harder, pull the band to draw your extended leg closer to your torso while keeping the knee locked.
This is general guidance, not a medical opinion. Listen to your body: if it hurts, stop. If you have an injury or a chronic condition, talk to a doctor first.
