Plate Around the World
Obliques, Abs, ShouldersWeight Plate
A standing shoulder mobility and core stability exercise performed by circling a weight plate around your head. It engages shoulder stabilizers and forces the core to resist movement.
How to do it
1Stand tall with feet shoulder-width apart, holding a plate with both hands in front of your chest.
2Softly bend your knees and brace your core to lock your hips and lower back in place.
3Circle the plate clockwise around your head, keeping it close to your shoulders and neck.
4Keep your head, neck, and torso completely stationary throughout the movement.
5Finish the full circle in front of your chest, then reverse direction for the next rep.
Common mistakes
Swaying your hips or torso, which turns off core stabilization.
Making too wide of a circle, creating unnecessary lever forces on the shoulders.
Craning your neck or moving your head to follow the plate.
Breathing
Maintain steady, continuous breathing throughout the rotations.
Make it harder or easier
To make it easier, use a lighter plate; to make it harder, narrow your stance.
