Ankle Circles
Calves, AnklesBodyweight
Simple drill to improve ankle joint mobility and warm up the lower legs. Builds foot stability for walking and foundational lower-body lifts.
How to do it
1Stand tall and distribute your weight evenly.
2Shift your weight to your standing leg, set your working foot slightly behind you, and rest on your toes.
3Smoothly roll your heel in circles, pivoting on the ball of your foot.
4Complete your reps in one direction, then switch directions.
5Repeat the exercise on the other leg.
Common mistakes
Placing too much weight on the working leg, putting painful pressure on your toes.
Fast, uncontrolled spinning instead of deliberately working through the entire range.
Losing balance due to a fully locked standing knee.
Breathing
Maintain a smooth, continuous breath throughout the movement.
Make it harder or easier
To simplify, place one hand on a wall or chair for balance.
To make it harder, lift your working foot completely off the floor and rotate your ankle in mid-air.
This is general guidance, not a medical opinion. Listen to your body: if it hurts, stop. If you have an injury or a chronic condition, talk to a doctor first.
