Alternating V-Up
Abs, Hip FlexorsBodyweight
A dynamic core exercise performed on your back by alternating single-leg lifts. It strengthens the front abdominal wall and hip flexors while fixing side-to-side strength imbalances.
How to do it
1Lie flat on your back with your legs extended and arms by your sides or overhead.
2Brace your core and simultaneously lift your upper body and one straight leg toward each other.
3Touch your foot or shin with your hands at the top of the movement.
4Lower back down under control, keeping light tension in your abs.
5Repeat the movement on the opposite leg.
Common mistakes
Yanking with your head and neck, putting excessive stress on the neck muscles.
Arching your lower back heavily at the bottom position, losing core control.
Bending your leg at the knee, which shortens the lever arm and reduces core engagement.
Breathing
Exhale as you crunch up and raise your leg, contracting your abs. Inhale as you smoothly lower back down to the floor.
Make it harder or easier
To scale down, bend the raised leg slightly or don't lift your torso as high; to make it harder, keep your feet and shoulder blades hovering off the mat throughout the entire set.
This is general guidance, not a medical opinion. Listen to your body: if it hurts, stop. If you have an injury or a chronic condition, talk to a doctor first.
