Alternating Lateral Bounds
Quads, Glutes, Adductors, Abductors, CalvesBodyweight
Alternating lateral bounds are a plyometric exercise that builds explosive power and lateral stability. They strengthen your legs and glutes while sharpening your balance control.
How to do it
1Stand tall, load your weight onto your right leg, and bend your knee slightly.
2Push off explosively from your right leg and bound sideways to the left.
3Land softly on your left leg, absorbing the impact by bending your knee and hinging back at your hip.
4Stick the landing and hold your balance for 1–2 seconds.
5Bound back to the right leg and continue alternating.
Common mistakes
Landing on a stiff, locked leg, sending high impact through your knee and hip.
Letting your landing knee cave inward, exposing joint ligaments to injury.
Rushing the bound without freezing the landing, losing body control and balance.
Breathing
Inhale as you set up; exhale forcefully as you drive off and land.
Make it harder or easier
To simplify, decrease the jump distance. To make it harder, bound further laterally or extend the stick pause.
This is general guidance, not a medical opinion. Listen to your body: if it hurts, stop. If you have an injury or a chronic condition, talk to a doctor first.
